3 Day Surgical Implantology Shadowing Program

This 3-day course will initiate the process of implementing surgical placement into your practice. An evidence based, inter-disciplinary, interactive, and hands-on approach will help to broaden comprehension of implant related case selection and treatment planning. Observation of a series of live surgeries chairside will give a thorough perspective of treatment considerations from start to fi nish. The goal is to aid in gaining some practical experience in Straightforward scenarios – in accord with the SAC Classification. It is important that all applicants for this course acknowledge that this course is intended to provide didactic and practical
training in the diagnosis, treatment planning and surgical techniques used when placing Straumann dental implants. This course does not provide certifi cation that an individual is competent to perform the procedure is discussed and demonstrated.
Course Objectives:
• Defi ne patient selection criteria for Straightforward implant surgery
• Discuss sequence of clinical care: from initial consultation, through treatment plan, pre-operative considerations, placement, and post-operative management
• Demonstrate working knowledge of relevant anatomy, bone classification, principles of osseointegration and wound healing, and diagnostic aids available
• Understand impact of materials, surface, and bio-mechanical design at the cellular level and consequent clinical outcome as confirmed by current research
• Develop comprehensive treatment plans for straightforward situations, including appropriate implant and prosthetic componentry
• Appreciate indications for surgical stents in their various forms
• Overview of the Straumann Dental Implant System and placement protocols developed through the ITI Consensus
Hands-on (porcine mandibles)
• Flap design
• Site development
• Implant selection and placement
• Instrument handling
• Closure and suture techniques
• Soft tissue management
Live surgeries
Observation of numerous live surgeries chairside will give a full understanding of various aspects of:
• Pre-, peri-, and post-operative treatment
• Sequencing of surgical procedures and instrumentation
• Managing unexpected complications that may arise

Cancellations made 15-29 days prior to the course starting – 50% of the registration fee will be refunded.
Cancellations made 0-14 days prior to the course starting – refund issued in the form of a credit towards future courses.

Straumann reserves the right to cancel courses that do not meet the minimum enrolment. The registration fee will be refunded, in full, within two weeks of cancelling the course. Straumann reserves the right to change and or substitute its speakers and topics.
This course qualifies for 18 hours of continuing education credits.
Straumann Canada is an ADA CERP recognized provider. The Academy of General Dentistry recognizes the ADA CERP approval and therefore FAGD/MAGD credit will be awarded.
